Abstract

1,135,443. Latches. A. BOGOSIAN. 14 Jan., 1966 [16 Feb., 1965], No. 1851/66. Heading E2A. A latch arrangement comprises a latch bolt housing 4 and a strike housing 6, the latch bolt housing carrying a latch bolt 7 which has a bevelled surface and is adapted for latching engagement with the strike housing, the latch bolt housing also carrying a tongue 9 which is fixed to the latch bolt housing and is adapted to engage a shield member 8, the shield member being movably mounted on the strike housing and adapted to be moved to and held in a shielding position by the tongue when the latch bolt is latchingly engaged with the strike housing, the shielding position being such that the shield member shields the bevelled surface of the latch bolt against access when the latch bolt is latchingly engaged with the strike housing. In the construction shown the shield member is pivotally carried by the strike housing and is biassed to a normal position in which it is within the housing by a coil spring surrounding the pivot pin 10. The tongue 9, during closing movement of a door to which the latch bolt housing is secured, passes through a slot in the strike housing to engage the shield member and move it to the shielding position in which it partly enters the latch bolt housing. The shield member comprises a flat plate with arms extending 'from the plate to engage the pivot pin so that the shield member partially envelops the latch bolt.
