Abstract

1423258 Latches W H HEITZ 17 May 1973 [19 May 1972] 23603/73 Heading E2A A door latch comprises a latch bolt 2 loaded by a spring 13 to a projecting latching position, a blocking member 4 which, in the operative blocking position, retains the latch bolt in a retracted position, and a release member 45 engageable with a striker member 52 adapted to be mounted on the door frame with such engagement displacing the release member to release the blocking member and free the latch bolt which can thus then shoot to the latching position, means being provided for relative adjustment of the release member and the striker member. As shown in Fig. 1, the latch bolt 2 is guided by a pin 14, operated to the retracted position by the arm 30 of a follower 3 and moved to the door latching position by a spring 13, the bolt includes a projection 250 which, in the retracted position of the bolt, is abutted by the crank 44 of the blocking bolt 4. The latter includes a pivot 41 slidably adjustable in a carrier 40, itself longitudinally adjustable, and a crank 43 mounting the release member 45. To release the latch bolt 2 the member 45 is moved to one side or the other to disengage the crank 44 from the abutment end 251 of the projection 250 when the latch bolt shoots forward to its door fastening position. The angled contact piece 52 on the striker plate 5 and which activates the blocking bolt upon closure of the door, is adjustable vertically and horizontally and the edge 520 may be disposed diagonally. In a modification, the blocking bolt 6, Fig. 3, comprises a pivoted lever 63 having a blocking pin 632 which is engageable with the abutment edge 251 when the latch bolt 2 is retracted and adjustable longitudinally by a screw 62. Engagement of the release member 65 with an adjustable wedge-shaped striker piece on the striker plate causes the lever to be pivoted against the bias of a spring 64 whereby the pin 632 is disengaged from the edge 251 to allow the latch bolt 2 to move to the door fastening position.
