Abstract
1356029 Locks Y NAKANISHI 21 May 1971 [23 May 1970] 16192/71 Heading E2A A fastening device combined with a pair of doors one or both of which comprises a hollow vertical frame member comprises a base portion 7a fixed to the frame member 2, a catch 8 rotatably supported on the base portion, a rotatable shaft 12 integral with the catch and rotatable as a unit with the catch and extending through the base portion into the frame member, a catch keeper 9 fixed to the frame member 11 of the other door and engageable with. the catch, a vertically slidable securing member 3 in the frame member 2 for securing and releasing the catch by engaging or disengaging with the rotatable shaft, an actuating member 4 provided in the frame member 2 or in another frame member for sliding the securing member vertically and a flexible line 6 connecting the actuating member and the securing member. The flexible line 6 is connected to an arm 17 of the actuating member 4 whereby raising the member 4 disengages the bifurcated securing member 3 from an end portion 13 of the shaft and allows rotation of the catch 8 to release it from the keeper 9. The member 3 moves in a hollow guide which is stepped to allow entry of the shaft end portion 13. When the member 4 is depressed the member 3 falls under gravity to engage the end portion and lock the catch. The actuating member 4 is retained in either position by a two-part pin having a spring between the parts urging the parts outwardly into engagement with a selected groove in each side of a cover 23. In another embodiment shown in Fig. 7 the flexible line 6 is secured to a guide sliding plate 35 which is raised or lowered by pivoting a lever 30 on a pivot 31 on a frame 60, the lever also being secured by a pin 32 to a spring urged sliding member 33 slidable within a cylinder 34 of the plate 35 when the lever pivots. In a further embodiment, shown in Fig. 11, the line 6 is connected to a pin 39 in an L-shaped slot in a hollow cylinder 40, within the frame member 2 when a push button 37 on a bolt 38 within the cylinder is pressed, the pin 39 on the bolt moves along the slot, a spring rotates the bolt so that the securing member 3 descends and locks the catch and the bolt 38 projects into a slot in the frame member 11. The securing member may alternatively comprise a rectangular block which is lowered to engage a flat face of the end portion 13 of the shaft and thereby lock the catch.
