Abstract

1494445 Holder for a door S P SIMMONS 23 Jan 1975 [24 Jan 1974] 2982/75 Heading E2A A holder 10, Figs. 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 for limiting the amount of opening of a door 12 with respect to a frame 18 comprises a base 14, an intermediate link 34 which is pivotally-connected to the base 14 by a pin 32, a link 42 which is pivotally-mounted on the intermediate link 34, a latch 48 which is movably-mounted on the link 42, and a latchplate 16, having a tube-member 20 with a 'T'-shaped opening 21 therein for receiving either of portions 52 or 56 or 54 of the latch 48. The base 14 is mounted on the door 12 and has flanges 28, 30. The intermediate link 34 is connected, by a pin 40, to the link 42, the latter having flanges 44, 46. The latch 48 is rotatable by a knob 50, via a shaft 51, and has three functions:-when a flat side 58 of the latch 48 is facing the latchplate 16, the door is free to open unrestrained; when a portion 52 of the latch 48 enters a slot 59 in a post 60, which is mounted on the base 14, the links 34 and 42 are held in a folded position, and the door 12 is locked with the latch so positioned that tongue 54 or 56 enters the 'T'-slot 21 in the latchplate 16, upon rotating the latch so that portion 52 enters the slot 21 in the latchplate 16, the links 42, 34 are freed and can unfold to allow the door to be opened a limited amount. A hole 61 may be provided in the link 34 to provide clearance forthe post 60. The latch 48 may be provided with spacing detents (not shown) to locate its various positions, the detents each being engageable by a spring S mounted on a post P, Fig. 5. In modifications the rotatable latch is replaced by a sliding latch which is actuated by rotating a knob, a sliding latch is actuated by sliding a knob, a sliding latch is provided with a 'T'-shaped opening for engagement with the latch plate, and a doorknob is mounted on a base.
