Abstract

1,135,759. Fastenings. Y. NAKANISHI. 28 Dec., 1965 [27 Dec., 1964], No. 54946/65. Heading E2A. A fastening for doors and the like comprises a cylinder 6 in which moves a rod 17 which is projected against the action of a pretwisted spring 19 by pressing a knob 18 on one end of the rod to engage an opening 13 in a housing 9 the opening having slots for pins 27 on the rod to pass through the rod being rotated by the spring and the rotation being limited by a boss 25 on the rod engaged in a slot in the cylinder. The boss 25 moves in slot 22 in the cylinder 6, the end of the slot being enlarged to allow the rod to rotate a limited extent to retain the rod in engagement with the housing. The rod is withdrawn by the spring when the knob is turned. The rod may be secured in two steps by having the slot in the cylinder of zig-zag form and the housing with two spaced aligned openings each of which is engaged in turn by the pins in the end of the rod. In another embodiment the rod is projected by the spring, a sleeve 14 of a cover plate having an end stop which abuts the end of the knob when the rod is withdrawn and which engages in a slot in the knob when the knob is rotated to free the rod for projection. The end of the rod may support a tongue which when the knob is pushed rotates to latching position.
