Abstract

1,026,995. Door latches. H. NEVELING. June 30, 1964 [July 27, 1963], No. 27031/64. Heading E2A. A door latch comprises a pivotable latch bolt 15 coupled to a rotary cam 12 having an over centre position, and an energy storage means 6 including a rectilinearly guided driving member 8, 9 within which the cam is rotatable and which acts as a follow to the cam. The door latch comprises a damping cylinder 4 filled with oil and accommodating an axially movable piston 5 and a spring 6 which serves as an energy storage means. The spring surrounds a piston rod 8 one end of which projects into a sliding member 9. A pivot 10 supported in a lock case 2 passes through slots 11 in the sliding member to ensure rectilinear movement thereof and has an eccentric disc 12 rigidly mounted thereon. The pivot also carries a latch bolt 15, shown in the unlatched position in Fig. 4, the latch bolt being held in this position by the over-centring of the eccentric disc 12, the sliding member 9 being held in the lifted position. When the door is closed the latch bolt 15 strikes a nose on the locking plate (Fig. 5, not shown) and pivots the eccentric disc back from its over-centre position so that the sliding member under the action of the spring can further pivot the eccentric disc and thus the latch bolt 15. The closing movement of the door is damped by the piston 5.
