Abstract

1336020 Door lock actuating mechanism DEFENCE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 16 July 1971 [22 July 1970] 35456/70 Heading E2A Mechanism for selectively actuating the locking mechanism of a door lock between locking and unlocking conditions comprises an electrically-operating double-acting solenoid 18, a piston 34 and a cylinder 32 one of which is connected to the armature 20 of the solenoid and the other of which is adapted to be connected to the locking mechanism the cylinder housing two springs 40, 42 one on each side of the piston, movement of said solenoid armature causing relative axial movement of the piston and cylinder to effect an increase in the load of one spring and a decrease in the load of the other spring without actuation of the locking mechanism until a predetermined load difference is applied across the piston by said springs at which load difference said relative movement ceases and actuation of the locking mechanism commences, the arrangement being such that when armature movement ceases actuation of the locking mechanism is completed by further relative movement of the piston and cylinder under the influence of the spring load difference. In the construction shown the cylinder is connected to the armature 20 and the piston is connected to the locking mechanism via a piston rod 36 a lever 38 and a link 46; the armature is also connected to a sill button 14 by a rod 22 so that the locking mechanism can be manually actuated. Means can be provided for varying the position of the cylinder relative to the solenoid.
