Abstract
299,882. Descombes, E. B. Nov. 4, 1927, [Convention date]. Latches, sliding; striking plates and staples for latches. -In a latch for vehicle doors a pyramidal projection 1 secured to the lock case enters a corresponding socket 25 in the striking plate and staple member, and is pressed home by the action of an inclined surface 4 provided on the latch bolt 3. The staple fitting is in two parts. One part 27, preferably cast, and secured in place by screws 28, has the projection-receiving socket 25 and a recess 26 to receive the latch bolt end. The other part 30, which may be of pressed &c. metal has an inclined surface 32 engaged by the surface 4 of the bolt, and a recess 36 adapted to receive the bolt in the halfclosed position of the door. The part 30 has lugs 34 by which it is attached to part 27 with screws 35, and it is also secured to the door-post by screws passed through holes 31. The latch bolt is shot by a spring 5, Fig. 3, and is withdrawn by a hand lever 7 urged to shot position by a spring 13, the lever working in a recess in, and acting directly on, the bolt. Lever 7 is bent to provide a shoulder 21 which may be engaged by a pivoted catch 15 to hold the lever against movement, and as the lever is mounted by means of a square hole 12 on the usual handle spindle, opening of the door is thus prevented. The catch 15 is raised against the action of a spring 16 to free lever 7 by a cam 17 operated by an inside handle 19, Fig. 1.
