Multiple fastenings for doors; staples for locks and catches.-An ordinary lock or latch bolt a, when shot, engages and rocks an arm j of a bellcrank lever, the other arm h of which rocks a pivoted catch e, mounted on the door frame, into engagement with a cleat or staple b secured on the door. A second catch e may be provided, operated from the other by a link f. When the bolt a is withdrawn the lever j, h and catches e return to unlocked position under the action of springs (not shown) or gravity. The mechanism is enclosed in a casing c secured to the doorpost and with a mortice lock, as shown, the spindle carrying the arm j extends out of the -casing into the aperture entered by the bolt a, but with a rim lock the casing c acts as a staple -and is provided with a slot to receive the bolt, the arm j being within the casing opposite the slot. Arm j may have an adjustable member k to regulate the throw. In an alternative arrangement, Fig. 3, the bolt engages the upper end of a lever 2, the lower end of which engages a pivoted member 4 mounted on the door-post and normally hanging vertically. When the bolt is shot, member 4 is moved to the dotted line position, engaging staples 6 on the frame and door respectively, and its upper end engages a member 5 pivoted on the door, moving this member to the dotted line position into engagement with staples 7 on frame and door.
