Abstract

Latches, sliding; latches, swinging; striking-plates for latches. -The casing of a latch for motor-vehicle &c. door has a flange 2a, Figs. 1 and 5, provided with a plurality of conical studs 6 which enter corresponding tubes in the striking plate 7 when the door is closed, to prevent rattling &c. The nose of the sliding bolt is inclined at 13 to co-operate with the hole in the striking plate so as to urge the door towards the closed position, and is rounded at 10 to co-operate with a rounded recess (not shown), at the edge of the striking plate to facilitate slamming. The bolt, which is cylindrical, is shot by a spring 4 surrounding a reduced portion 16 of the bolt, and its rotation is prevented by the follower 19 working in a recess at the side of, or underneath, the bolt. In the pivoted-latch modification, Fig. 7, the latch is in the form of a lever pivoted at 32, one arm 30 having a terminal roller 29 which rides over and engages behind an inclined projection 37 on the striking plate. The roller is urged into engagement by a spring 33 acting on the other arm 31 which is operated to release the latch by pulling a handle 35.
