Abstract

477,079. Night latches. NICO MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd., and NIEDERDRENK, G. June 16, 1937, No. 16722. [Class 44] In a night latch the follower and bolt are so constructed that on releasing the actuating member and pressing the bolt in by hand a distance greater than the normal movement, the follower is adapted to automatically engage and hold the bolt withdrawn. The bolt 2 is normally withdrawn by the pin 15 attached to follower plate 14. If the bolt is pressed in by hand when the door is open to the position shown in Fig. 4, the spring 16 causes the pin 15 to come in front of the stop piece 6 and hold the latch withdrawn. The rotation of plate 14 is limited by the stop 18 and the projection 17. Normal actuation of the follower to withdraw the bolt will also release it. The construction shown is applicable to bolts used for right and left-handed latches, but if only one hand is required the slot 5a and stop 18 and projection 17 may be dispensed with, the rotation of follower being limited by a tooth or notch in one edge of slot 4. The cylinder lock acts on pin 15 through a lever arm. The bolt 2 is spring loaded by a spring 12 placed between the peg 11 on the bolt head and a fixed plate 10.
