[Class 44] A cupboard fastening comprises a spring- loaded two-armed lever 5, Fig. 1, pivoted at 6 to an apertured plate 2 fixed inside the door 1, one end of the lever being adapted to engage a nose 21 on the door-frame. Release is effected by depression of a spring-biassed member 17, Fig. 2, slidably mounted on the handle 14 and having a core 18 formed with an inclined slot engaging the chamfered end 13 of a slide-bar 12, the other end of which engages a depression 11 in a limb of the lever 5. The lever 5 may be fitted with a roller where it makes contact with the nose 21 to reduce friction. In a modification for heavy doors, Fig. 4, the catch 23 is provided with a further catch 24 pressed by the spring 26 against a slot cut in the lower wall of the catch 23, in the open position, as shown. When the door is pushed to, the catch 23 is first pressed back behind the nose 21 by the spring 28, the second catch 24 then pressing with its nose 27 against the nose 21, so that only its pivot 25 can follow the movement of the catch 23. In this way a knee-lever movement is produced by which the door 1 is closely pressed against the jamb 20.
