Abstract
513,203. Sliding latches. KEATS, H. B., and GIRDLESTONE, F. G. Jan. 31, 1938, No. 3020. [Class 44] Sliding latch 29 adapted to be automatically retracted when released as by the actuation of one or other of the push buttons 54, 55, is combined with an actuating bolt 21, which, when moved inwards by the striker plate 17 during the closing of the door, moves the latch 29 outwards partly to latching position by means of a lever 36 pivoted at 39 and having an abutment 46 engaging the end of the latch, the movement being completed by a spring 43 pulling the lever about the pivot 37. When the button 54 or 55 is depressed, the lever is rocked out of the plane of the latch, which is then retracted by a spring 57 connecting it to the bolt 21. During the opening of the door, the bolt 21 is moved outwards by spring 57, causing the lever 36 to swing on 39 so that abutment 46 slides along the side of the latch until it clears it, when it is moved into alignment by a spring 48 pressing on the lever.
