[Class 44.] In a fastening having two spring- actuated catches L<1>, L<2> for respectively holding the sliding door of a railway carriage open and closed, as in Specification 241,130, [Class 44, Fastenings, Lock &c.], the appropriate catch being released by pulling the operating handle in the direction of the desired movement of the door, a sliding key-operated member B, which prevents operation of the handle by abutting against flats F of the handle-operated catch-releasing lever A, is moved by a finger C disposed in an aperture G and actuated by a square key &c. inserted at C<1>, or by a lever or like lock and a corresponding key. Member B may carry a spring plunger D bearing frictionally against the inner face of the. casing to avoid looseness. A modification having a single catch is referred to.
