A hinge for horizontally pivoted windows comprises two hinge members 22, 30 pivoted together by hinge pin 44 and having a holding mechanism 52. This mechanism comprises a lever pivoted at 50 and whose end 60 may engage with an abutment . 64 on the member 22 . to prevent complete opening of the window, Fig. 5, but may be released by pressing the - other end of the lever 70 thus allowing com- ' plete opening movement as in Fig. 6. The catch has a flange on the other end (opposite to the end 60) which is abutted by a closing window to return the end 60 to the position where it will engage the abutment 64. -
