Abstract

853,890. Catches. PERL, A. H. F. March 11, 1959 [March 11, 1958; Sept. 27, 1958], Nos. 7730/58 and 30942/58. Class 44. An automatic spring catch for doors, &c. comprises a striker plate 29 including a striker bolt &c. 26, secured to a door 30, and a latch member 10 of channel shape which is mounted on a fixed pivot 12 in an opening of a housing 11, secured to the door jamb 24 and is braced by a tie rod 19 on which is pivoted a guide pin 20 for a helical compression spring 21, said spring 21 surrounding the guide pin 20 and bearing at one end against the tie rod 19 and at the other end against a fixed abutment formed by the rear wall 22 of the housing. The latch member 10 is provided with a recess 16 adapted to receive the striker bolt 26, and the construction is such that the bolt 26 will be retained or released by the latch merely by the exertion of a sufficient force against the door in either direction. The catch may be locked for example, by a headed pin (not shown) passing through co-operating holes in the side walls of the housing I and in the cheeks of the latch 10.
