An arrangement for sealing a fireplace aperture comprises doors 1, slidably mounted on wheels 3 and adapted to cover and seal the aperture when in the closed position and to be concealed by the fireplace surround 17, when moved laterally into the open position. The doors are operated by levers 8 pivotally attached to the doors at 7, and pivotally mounted at 9 to the front plate 6, the levers being operably attached by rods 10 to a lever 11, pivotally mounted at 12 to a handle (not shown) on the front of the plate 6. A movement to the left, of the top of lever 11, opens the doors, and a movement to the right closes the doors, which may be provided with glass windows 14.
