[Class 44] A sliding latch is actuated by an inside or an outside handle, which is normally held locked and can only be turned after an endwise movement of the spindle, preferably in a direction opposite to the opening movement of the door. A latch C is movable by a follower engaging a spindle D on which the two handles A, B are mounted, the spindle being normally pushed towards the outside of the door by a spring F to bring a pin G on the handle A into engagement with a hole in the latch case. Alternatively a peg may be provided on the spindle to engage a notch in the case.
