Latches, sliding.-The spring c for actuating the sliding latch-bolt of a lock or latch is contained in a trough-like slipper or container d, pivoted to the casing by the pin b, which also serves to attach the spring. The latch f is pivoted to the other end of the slipper on a pin e. When the handle is turned, the follower h turns the slipper d on its pivot b, against the spring c, withdrawing the latch-bolt, which is shot by the pressure of the spring on the flat bottom g of the slipper when the handle and follower are released. The slipper may be made with a hole k in each flange at both ends in order to be used with both left and right handed door locks.
