[Class 44] A spring-shot latch bolt a is retracted by lever handles k, k<1> pivoted on opposite faces of the door e and each connected to the bolt by a chain or other flexible member, each chain passing through apertures l, f in the door and the end of the casing. In order that the bolt may be retracted by movement of the levers in the direction of door movement lever k<1> has the operating handle and chain connection on the same side of the pivot to operate by pulling, whilst lever k has the handle and chain connection on opposite sides of the pivot to operate by pushing. Screws m adjustably limit the lever movements and throw of the bolt. As shown, the bolt a with tapered head is cylindrical and slides in a cylindrical casing c inserted in the edge of the door, and has a bore accommodating the spring g through which the chains j pass axially to the securing pin h. The bolt enters a striking-plate n having a circular aperture tapered at o round half its circumference, to prevent rattling by co-operation with the tapered bolt.
