Abstract

395,567. Door fastenings. DALZIEL, G. A., 31, Sherbrooke Street, and ABLESON, H. H., 578, Agnes Street, both in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Nov. 23, 1932, No. 33122. [Class 44.] The doors of a motor-car are simultaneously fastened by turning one of the door handles. This handle is then locked against turning. To bolt the doors, the handle 5 is turned clockwise to engage with a spring bolt 15 which shifts a bolt 35 into engagement with the door 3 and, through a pinion 38, a bolt 36 into engagement with the door 2. Corresponding bolts on the other side of the car are shot through cables 42, 43 and another pinion. To unbolt the doors, the handle is turned back and a pivoted catch 23 which in the bolting operation became engaged with a notch 24 in a bolt 18 shifts the latter so as to return the bolt 36 to its inoperative position. When the head of the bolt 18 reaches the edge of the casing 6, the catch 23 is tripped by a screw 28 engaging with the arm 7<1> and the bolt 18 springs back. The ordinary door latch 11 is withdrawn by a follower 7. To prevent accidental movement of the bolts 35, 36, a spring- pressed detent 40 may be provided to engage the bolt 36. Adjusting screws may be provided in the ends of the bolts 15, 18. The locking means for the handle may comprise a vertically pivoted dog which is moved into engagement with the rose plate by a pin moved endwise in the handle shank by a lock.
