Abstract

172,651. Dandois et Cie, J. B. Dec. 10, 1920, [Convention date]. Addition to 167,448. Multiple fastenings for doors; latches, sliding.-In a multiple fastening for the doors of vehicles &c. of the type described in the parent Specification, the latch bolt and vertical hook bolt mechanisms are arranged so that the door when latched car be reopened without first locking the door by the vertical hook bolts. The door being open, the hook bolts, which are connected by arms 13, 14 provided with racks co-operating with a toothed wheel 15 mounted on the same spindle as the latch-actuating cam 20, are held in the unlocking position, Fig. 4, with their ends pushed outwardly, by a projection 16 on the latch 17 engaging in a notch 18 in the arm 14. Secured to the spring- pressed latch 17 is an auxiliary bolt 19, which, when the door is shut, bears against the door jamb and prevents the latch being fully shot, so that the projection 16 does not re-engage with the recess 18, and the hook bolts can then be operated by turning the handle in the counter-clockwise direction. The hook bolts are then secured in the locking position by the projection 16 engaging another recess, below the recess 18 in the arm 14 and also by a second projection 16b on the latch 17 engaging a recess 18 in the arm 13<b>. A certain play is provided between the teeth of the pinion 15 and those of the racks to allow the cam 20 to withdraw the latch 17 sufficiently to free the projections. 16 and 16<b> from their recesses before the pinion 15 acts on the racks. When the door is latched, but is not locked by the hook bolts, the cam 20 is in its Fig. 4 position but the projection 16 is not in engagement with the recess 18 in the arm 14 and the door can be re-opened by turning the cam 20 in the clockwise direction, sufficient play being provided between the teeth of the pinion 15 and the racks to allow the cam to withdraw the latch fully without affecting the racks. The latch 17 can be locked in the shot position, when the door is closed, by a projection 22 on the key-operated bolt 21 engaging in a recess 23 in the latch.
