[Class 44] [Also in Group XIV] In a door handle of flush type, particularly but not solely for motor-venicle doors, the part of the handle accommodating recess giving access to the handle by the fingers is closed by a hinged flap so that the recess is normally completely closed flush with the door panel by the flap and handle. The closure may be made weather-proof by rubber sealing strips. Fig. 2 shows a recess 13 of substantially uniform depth, with a handle 14 of lever type pulled outwards to release the catch not shown, the finger space being provided above the handle and closed by a single flap 15, shown pushed inwards. Modifications described show a finger-space provided only towards the free end of the handle, the flap being correspondingly shorter than the handle, finger spaces provided above and below the handle, each being closed by a flap, and recesses which are deeper at the free end of the handle than at the pivot end, the bottom of the recess being either stepped or sloping. Figs. 8, 9 show a handle 14 of channel section having welded thereto a strip 30 to match the door panel, the handle being secured to a vertical spindle 36 having an arm 37 which may be connected with the latch mechanism, not shown, in any suitable manner. The closure flap 22 is mounted on a spindle 31 passing through side lugs 32 on the flap and corresponding lugs on the walls of the recess. The side lugs have tongues working in slots 29 in the top wall of the recess, their ends 34 being bent down as shown to co-operate with the recess wall to limit the outward movement of the flap under the action of a spring 35 which biases the flap to its closed position.
