Abstract

Latches, sliding.-In a latch particularly for motor-car doors the case comprises a front plate a with a flanged apertured end b through which the bolt head d projects, and a cover-plate k flanged on three sides to enclose and guide the bolt e. The bolt has a box-like depression g with an upstanding fin u accessible to the fingers through an aperture in plate a for retracting the bolt, and the aperture may have a frame-member with an upstanding flange x for co-operation with the thumb. The bolt is shut off by a pair of spiral springs o tethered between posts n, p on plate a and bolt respectively. The boxportion of the bolt presents an external shoulder q of curved form for engagement by the arms r of a follower operable by an outside handle, not shown, the square spindle of which engages a corresponding hole t in the follower boss, which is rotatably mounted in the plate k. The boxportion of the bolt also has external ribs l bearing against plate k to guide the bolt.
