Abstract

288,880. Bryan, S. P. Aug. 12, 1927. Latches, sliding.-A latch for vehicle doors is fitted with a lever operable by means of the catch handle within the vehicle to prevent operation of the latch by the outside handles. The latch bolt a is retracted from outside by a horizontal handleoperated spindle f with follower g, and from inside by an independent vertical spindle with handle h and follower k engaging a slot in the bolt, the vertical spindle also having a pin m. engaging an inclined slot in one end of a pivoted lever o so that when the vertical spindle is rotated from normal position in a direction opposite to that for withdrawing the bolt the other end of the lever g is moved down to engage behind the follower g and prevent retraction of bolt by means of the outside handle. The lever o is returned to the normal position shown by rotating handle h in a direction to retract the bolt, and is held by a spring q engaging a notch in the end of the lever.
