Abstract
302,605. Bohn Aluminum & Brass Corporation, (Assignees of Nelson, A. L.). Dec. 16, 1927, [Convention date]. Pistons.-In a piston in which the gudgeon-pin bosses 12 are carried by piers 11 depending from the head 10 and connected to the skirt 13, from which bearing slippers 14, 15 extend upwards, the connections 19 to the skirt are formed at one side only, and may extend upwardly in order to stiffen the slipper 14 at that side. The slippers are connected by struts 18 of relatively inexpansible material, and the lower portion 13 of the skirt may be oval, or the skirt may be tapered. A, slit may extend upwardly into either slipper from the lower edge of the skirt, or a slit 22, Fig. 7, may be cut from the upper edge of the skirt into a slipper. A packing-ring 28 may be housed in a groove cut in a ribbed portion 25 of the skirt. In order to facilitate casting the rib is interrupted at diametrically opposite points 27, at which points the packing-ring lies in a slot in the skirt.
