Abstract

251,127. Macdonald, A. E., and Motor Pistons, Ltd. June 4, 1925. Pistons; pistons, reducing wear of.- In a piston of the type comprising an aluminium &c. body having a packing- ring carrier of harder metal, secured during casting, the carrier is formed with a flange or flanges extending into the piston body. The carrier e, Fig. 1, preferably of aluminium bronze, has a horizontal flange g, which may be perforated, extending into the piston crown, and may have an upward extension e<1>, which may be perforated. The lower end of the carrier may form a bevelled joint with the piston body. In a modification the flange g is vertical. Alternatively the reinforcement is formed with serrations e<5>, Fig. 4.
