Abstract

Pistons; pistons, reducing and equalizing wear of. -The piston for an internalcombustion engine is made of aluminium allov and is provided at each end with a cast-iron bearing collar f or g, which is screwed on to the piston, or pressed on axially. The collar f may be formed with grooves for the packing-rings. The collar g may also be provided with a packing-ring. According to the Provisional Specifications, the piston may be of aluminium, and the collars may be of steel &c. A single collar may be employed, and the collars may be secured by casting or otherwise. A piston may be composed of a cast-iron or other skirt into which an aluminium or other head is pressed or otherwise secured. The head carries the gudgeonpin bosses.
