Abstract
334,744. Bohn Aluminum & Brass Corporation. June 27, 1929, [Convention date]. Pistons.-In a piston in which the gudgeon-pin bosses 12 are carried by piers 11 depending from the head 10, and bearing slippers, extending upwards from a circular band 14, are spaced by struts 15 of relatively inexpansible material, and integral ties 16, 17 extend between the bosses 12 and the slippers 13 on each side of each strut, the inner ties 17, which are wider than the outer ties 16, extend beneath the struts 15 and are connected to the band 14 by webs 18. The band 14 may be relieved below the bosses 12, and a slit may extend into one or both of the slippers, or a slit 24 may extend from end to end of one slipper. Bent projections on the struts 15 are embedded in the slippers 13, and the ties 16, 17 may be bonded together through perforations 21 in the struts. Alternatively, the perforations 21 may replace the projections 19 at the lower edges of the struts, as shown. The holes for the gudgeon-pin bosses may be formed with bent projections 22.
