Pistons. - In an aluminium or like piston in which the gudgeon-pin bosses 12 are carried from the head 10 by piers 11 and steel or other relatively inexpansible struts 15 extend between bearing- slippers 14, and are embedded in the piers 11, the piers 11 are connected to the slippers 14 by integral ties 25, in which the struts 15 are also embedded The parts of the ties at the back of the struts 15 are wider, as shown at 26, or otherwise of greater cross-sectional area than the parts of the ties in front of the struts. The ties may be horizontal, or extend to the angles between the slippers 14 and the circular portion 13 of the shirt, or, as shown, the ties at one side of the piers may be horizontal and those at the other side of the piers inclined. The circular portions 13 are slotted at 22. Specifications 268,399, 311,728. and 317,389 are referred to.
