Abstract
326,274. Neale, F. Dec. 24, 1928. Pistons.- In a piston in which a head 1 of aluminium or the like is cast on to a cast-iron or other skirt, the joint 3 between the head and the skirt is made of dovetail formation, in order to avoid distortion of the skirt bv expansion of the head. The skirt may be closed by a crown 5, or may be open ended. In either case the gudgeon-pin bosses are connected by ties 5<a>. The annular bearing portion 9 of the skirt is connected to the upper portion by strips 10 at points at right-angles to the gudgeon-pin bosses.
