Abstract

429,145. Pistons. BOHN ALUMINIUM & BRASS CORPORATION, 2512, East Grand Boulevard, Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A. Sept. 1, 1934, No. 25244. Convention date, July 19. [Class 122 (i)] In a piston having an oval skirt, the short axis of which coincides with that of the pin bosses, and a pair of bimetallic expansion controlling elements operative under heat to bend the skirt to circular form each element comprising inner and outer members 16, 20 the former having a lower coefficient of expansion than the latter, each of said inner members extends chordally between the thrust faces and its upper and lower edges extend above and below the pin bosses. The outer members are in the form of webs 20. The inner members may be embedded in, Fig. 1, or may encircle the bosses, Fig. 7, in which latter case lugs 24 on the skirt assist in holding the inner and outer members in contact. Slots 15 separate the head and skirt.
