Abstract
491,843. Pistons. NICOLLE, A. V., and AUTOMOTIVE ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. Feb. 6, 1937, No. 3616. [Class 122 (i)] A steel piston having an insert 8 forming a chamber 9 adapted to contain a cooling medium, e.g. sodium or sodium salt, is provided with an arch piece 7 extending between and receiving the gudgeon pin bosses 6 and forming a support for the crown. The insert may be formed from metal, e.g. nickel, unaffected by the cooling medium, and may terminate above or below the bosses.
