Abstract

531,321. Pistons. SPECIALLOID, Ltd., and GRAHAM, E. B. July 1, 1939, No. 19228. [Class 122 (i)] In a light-metal piston having an insert of austenitic cast iron, as described in Specification 483,993, the iron has a co-efficient of expansion of substantially more than 20 per cent. less than that of the light metal. The insert may be of ordinary grey cast iron having a co-efficient of expansion of .000012 per degree C., and the piston body of a silicon aluminium alloy having a co-efficient of expansion of from .000017 to .000019 per degree C.
