Abstract

Piston rings particularly for combustion engines, compressors and pumps are formed of a cast iron alloyed with V in a proportion of 0.15-0.45 per cent of the alloy, Ti in a proportion 1/6 -\ba1/2 of the V, and Cu in a proportion 3-5 times that of the V. The C content of the alloy is 2.5-3.9 per cent. The alloy may also contain 0.8-3.0 per cent Si and 0.15-0.6 per cent P. The rings are preferably given chromed finish faces.
