Abstract

545,598. Iron alloys. WINFIELD, T. C. March 24, 1941, No. 3933. [Class 82 (i)] [Also in Group XXVII] A liner for an engine cylinder is made of a chrome-alloy cast iron, a portion of the wall of the bore at the combustion end being formed of chromium, for example by electrolytic deposition in an enlargement of the bore. The chrome-alloy cast iron preferably contains .10 to .15 per cent. of vanadium, .20 to .25 per cent. of titanium, .4 to .5 per cent of chromium, 1 to 1.25 per cent. of manganese, 1.5 to 2.1 per cent. of silicon, and 3.4 to 3.6 per cent. of carbon. The liner may be made in the manner described in Specification 524,036, [Group XXVII].
