[Class 7 (ii)] A valve plate 19, which is clamped between a cylinder head 23 and the block 12 is located by the end of the liner which extends beyond its flange 15. The plate 19, which may have overhead-valve seatings, Fig. 3, or be flat, Fig. 2, and have side-valve seatings, preferably has cooling ribs 30 and packings 24, 26 and further packings round the valve ports.
