Abstract

406,000. Cylinders. VILLIERS, C. A., 48, Albermarle Street, London, and SIMMONS, E. F., Brackendale, Charteridge Road, Chesham, Buckinghamshire. Aug. 19, 1932, No. 29013/31. [Class 7 (ii).] Liner flanges 2 are clamped on the edges 3 of bores of the cylinder block by the inner surfaces of combustion chamber heads 5 which thus protect packings 8 and limit the pressure thereon. The edges 3 are slotted at 9 to provide passages for the cooling water. The surface of the edges 3 is first machined in one operation for the whole block, and the head is clamped down by long studs 7 made of a nickel manganese chromium non-magnetic steel and by studs 6. The packings 8 and telescopic joints 10 are of the metal-bellows type. Drain passages 12 above rubber packings 13 are also provided.
