Abstract

469,831. Cylinders. SANDERS. A. F., and FOWLER & CO. (LEEDS), Ltd., J. Feb. 19, 1936. No. 5036. [Class 7 (ii)] [Also in Group XXVI] Wear of a cylinder bore is reduced by wear - resisting strips 26, which are fixed in grooves in the cylinder liner, preferably by welding. The material, known by the Registered Trade Mark " STELLITE" is suitable, but the strips may be formed by electrodeposition of a hard-wearing metal, e.g. chromium. The strips are preferably arranged helically, to overlap when viewed axially of the cylinder. An annular reinforcing strip 27 is arranged adjacent the outer piston ring when the piston is at the top dead-centre.
