526,707. Piston-rings. SHORTHOUSE, A. C. March 25, 1939, No. 9378. [Class 122 (i)] In piston rings, which are plated with chromium to resist wear, the metal 11 is deposited in one or more grooves in the periphery or the side-faces of the ring, or both, 'so that the walls 6 of the groove act as supports for the deposited metal. The side-walls of the groove may be radial, undercut, curved, &c., and the groove may be continuous or interrupted by transverse walls. The surface of the ring is covered with the deposited metal and the excess is removed by grinding.
