Abstract
402,463. Piston-rings. LISTER & CO., Ltd., R. A., SANDERS, A. F., Victoria Iron Works, Long Street, Dursley, Gloucestershire, and HOWLETT, J. W., Ravenscourt, Lyming- ton, Hampshire. June 4, 1932, Nos. 15790/32 and 9717/33. [Class 122 (i).] Undivided pistonrings are made with a slightly oval contour. The inner periphery of the ring may be peened over arcs 13 thereby causing the metal to flow circumferentially. The ring is subsequently hardened. Alternatively, the outer periphery of the ring may be slightly undercut over the said arcs ; the wearing portions 14 being then ground or peened at the points 16, 17 to ensure even contact with the cylinder wall. Two or more of such rings are used in conjunction, with their major axes spaced apart, projections 19 on the rings engaging recesses in the piston to prevent rotation.
