Abstract

391,386. Cylinders. VILLIERS, C. A., 48, Albemarle Street, London. Nov. 16, 1932, No. 32424. [Class 7 (ii).] In a multicylinder engine, to facilitate machining, the surfaces of the edges 7 of the cylinder bases and the faces 8 of the combustion chamber-heads, between which liner flanges 6 are clamped, are arranged in parallel planes, each of which is finish-machined at a single operation. If the edges 7 are in the plane of the top of the cylinder block, either the jacket 3 of the head is extended downwards as shown or a packing member is interposed. Alternatively the plane of the edges 7 may be the floor of a recess formed in the face of the block. Packings 11, 15 and water passages 9 are arranged as shown.
