Abstract

374,789. Cylinders. SULZER FR—RES SOC. ANON., Winterthur, Switzerland. Dec. 21, 1931, No. 35246. Convention date, Jan. 7. [Class 7 (ii).] In a two-stroke engine, helical cylinder admission ports 8 are arranged so that the radial protection of an entering air stream on to the cylinder wall is at right-angles to the length of the port. The ports may all extend in the same helical direction or. in two oppositely inclined directions; the inclination of the passage behind a port, to a plane tangential to the cylinder is between 30‹ and 45‹, but may not be the same for all the ports. If the ports extend above the exhaust ports 12, an air reservoir 9 and non-return valves 10 are provided ; the application to a double-acting cylinder is also shown.
