541,368. Cylinder ports. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON. May 22, 1940, No. 9074. Convention date, Aug. 4, 1939. [Class 7 (ii)] The piston-controlled ports of a two-stroke engine are arranged in three groups, namely a group 1 admitting scavenging-air normal to the cylinder axis, a group 2 admitting scavenging air in a direction towards the cylinder head, and a group 3 for exhaust. The group 1 is further arranged so that the air admitted thereby strikes the cylinder wall opposite at the part between groups 2 and 3, and then rises to the cylinder head, being deflected back towards the exhaust ports nearest the group 2, whereas the air entering by the group 2 passes directly to the cylinder head and is deflected back towards the exhaust ports nearest the group 1. Some or all of the ports in one or more groups may be subdivided horizontally, and some or all may be inclined with respect to the radii of the cylinders.
