Abstract
508,850. Alloys. OUBRIDGE, W. A. Jan. 4, 1938, No. 184. [Class 82 (i)] Liners for the upper ends of cylinders of internal-combustion engines are made of castiron of austenitic structure having a coefficient of expansion exceeding .000016 and containing 10-20 per cent of nickel and 2-4 per cent of chromium. Copper up to 9 per cent may be substituted for an equivalent weight of the nickel content. In an example, the cast iron contains in addition to these metals in the stated proportions, 2.5-3.5 per cent of carbon, 1-3 per cent of silicon, not exceeding 0.14 per cent of sulphur, not exceeding 1.2 per cent of phosphorus and 0.4-2 per cent of manganese. One or more of aluminium, molybdenum, titanium, vanadium, tungsten, zirconium up to 6 per cent in all may be added. Specification 483,993 is referred to.
