Abstract

A piston is cast from an alloy comprising: silicon 8.5 to 11 per cent; nickel 0.5 to 1 per cent; magnesium 0.5 to 1.5 per cent; copper 2 to 4 per cent; manganese 0.3 to 0.8 per cent; iron 1 per cent maximum; zinc 1 per cent maximum, titanium 0.2 per cent maximum; other elements 0.05 per cent maximum for each and 0.5 per cent maximum total; the remainder to be aluminium.
