Abstract

The free graphite in grey cast iron is converted into nodular form by addition to the iron of a magnesium-cerium alloy containing not more than 73 per cent of magnesium, the balance being cerium. Preferably the magnesium content of the alloy is not more than 55 per cent and a more restricted range of magnesium has a minimum of 43 per cent. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 630,070.
