Abstract

468,397. Pistons. W. P. (LYMINGTON), Ltd., and HOWLETT, J. W. Jan. 30, 1936, No. 2826. [Class 122 (i)] [Also in Group XXII] A piston comprises a steel skirt 2, having flats 6 pressed therein, and an aluminium or other light alloy head 3 cast with gudgeon-pin bosses 4 engaging the flats 6. These have openings 8 which may each have a plane, perforated, or discontinuous flange 9 to be engaged by the cast metal. The skirt may have longitudinal, inclined H, T, or other slits or longitudinal or other grooves. As the head 3 is secured to the skirt only at the middle of the flats 6, variations of temperature cause these to flex but do not distort the bearing surfaces 2.
