Abstract

496,317. Pistons. NICOLLE, A. V., and AUTOMOTIVE ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. Oct. 5, 1937, No. 26976. [Class 122 (i)] A thin steel piston is provided with a chamber h adapted to contain cooling medium, e.g. sodium or sodium salt, while the skirt is strengthened in the region of the bosses by a thickening c, or by a ring member carrying the bosses and secured to the skirt. The skirt may be integral with or formed separately from the head. The cooling chamber is formed by an insert i which may be secured at its apex directly to the head or to an insert of light, heat conducting material as described in Specification 493,664.
