[Class 122 (i)] The gudgeon-pin bosses 3 are carried by the skirt and attached to the head by webs, and grooves 6 separate the bosses from the skirt except at the portion towards the head. The skirt is shown having four slots 9, 10, 11, 12 which are parallel to the sides of a quadrilateral having two sides parallel to the axis of the gudgeon pin. The skirt may be slotted at points between the four slots shown and the extra slots are offset with respect to the first set by an angle of 45‹. Ribs 7 are formed behind the slots and may be continuous or interrupted. The slots are at an angle to the axis of the piston.
